What is  online therapy and how can it help?

Online therapy is a component of telehealth where you work with a licensed  mental health counselor through a live video platform.   As the client, you are in the driver's seat. Your willingness to participate in your own healing is the ultimate predictor of when you'll overcome your challenges- sooner or later.  You will be asked to tackle therapeutic work outside of sessions (i.e. tracking a certain behavior/thought, practice a new skill, journal ,etc.)  Counseling will be most effective  for you if you are dedicated to being an active participant in the process- both in and out of sessions.

What technology do I need to participate in tele-health and is it easy to use?

The 2 most common ways to participate in tele-health is through your computer or phone.  You can use your computer as long as you have a camera and access to the internet. You may use your phone as long as it is a smart phone. It is easy to use and you will receive a reminder for your appointment.

Where do I attend a telehealth session?

You can attend the session from anywhere you have good internet reception.  Ideally, you will want to be in a quiet, private space without distractions or disruptions.

Is this a secure, private way to have a counseling session?

The telehealth service meets HIPPA compliance requirements.  The sessions are NEVER recorded, and personal data is stored on HIPPA compliant servers.

Where

How long will counseling last?

Most likely you will start with weekly sessions that last 50 minutes. As you progress, you will make the decision, with your therapist, to decrease the frequency of your sessions.  Many factors, such as the nature of your challenges and your motivation for change, will  contribute to the length of your therapy. Some people want to focus on a specific new concern, others want to work on complex issues that they have been struggling with for years.  In either case, counseling  is not a "quick fix".  The goal is not to be in therapy forever.  I want to help you achieve your therapeutic goals and empower you to move forward experiencing joy, peace and balance. Counseling is a personal journey and how long you stay is ultimately up to you.

What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic process.  A safe and trusting environment is necessary to begin exploring the issues that have brought you to therapy. I can communicate with third parties (e.g. physicians, family members, etc.) only if you have given prior written consent. Communication between client and therapist is protected by law and will be kept confidential
